Cleveland, OH (April 21, 2014) – HER Ideas in Motion has received a grant to provide scholarships for girls to attend technology workshops from the GROW Foundation, the organization announced today.
HER Ideas in Motion is a 501c(3) non-profit organization that provides computer coding, web design, and film making workshops to girls led by female technical professionals who lead by example. Through the workshops, girls gain real-world insights into working in a technical field. The purpose of the workshops is to encourage girls to pursue careers in these lucrative technical careers in which they are under-represented.
“During a HER Ideas in Motion Hackday Workshop girls and their parents spend the day building a technology project together and meeting female technology professionals,” said Nanci Coleman, Program Director of HER Ideas in Motion. “Parent involvement is the key to getting girls interested in a technology career: our evaluations of our workshops have made this very clear.”
HER Ideas in Motion makes scholarships available to 10% of all the organization's workshops.
The grant was provided by the student-run GROW Foundation of Hathaway Brown School. The Foundation seeks to fund projects that will help causes based in Cleveland and in other countries. The Foundation goal is to encourage and support educational programming by assisting organizations that address real community needs.
HER Ideas in Motion is looking to expand our programs with schools, universities, and community partners. Please contact Nanci Coleman, Director of Programs, at (216) 308-1039 or visit our website at herideasinmotion.com for more information.
